TWLOHA-University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Welcome to the TWLOHA-UNCC Chapter! Com join us on Wednesdays at 5:00 pm in CHHS 159.

TWLOHA Mission Statement: To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

In 2009, we launched the University Chapters program. UChapters is a network of student organizations on college and university campuses that exists to embody the mission and vision of To Write Love on Her Arms. Through organized meetings and events, each chapter serves as a voice of hope, inspiration, and support for students and their surrounding communities.

Hey! I’m Lyvie, the president of the new TWLOHA UChapter at UNCC, and this is my Fears vs. Dreams.

Fear: Never being enough

Dream: Trusting someone completely

I first heard about TWLOHA not long after it started in 2006, and I’ve always felt a strong a connection to this organization. At first, it was because I had a few friends in high school that dealt with many of the issues that TWLOHA tries to help with. And then I began to realize that it was much more than that; I started to realize and face my own struggles. While I still don’t like to acknowledge them all the time, (I like to worry more about the people I care about than myself sometimes) I’m working on it.

Over the years, I’ve followed the journey and supported the cause by purchasing merchandise and going to shows when I could, but I wished there was more that I could do. When I first started looking into UChapters, I never actually let myself believe that it was something that I could accomplish. And then I met Samantha. And then we were booking tickets to a MOVE Conference. And then we were getting approved. And it all feels like it happened so fast and I can barely believe it.

So, here we are, 2 months after approval and we have such a great group of people; I feel like we’re already starting to have a presence on campus and we have some great plans for the spring semester to help spread the movement.
